The Body-Chariot Analogy

Standard

In this analogy, our Body is considered to be analogous to a chariot.

Our Body is the chariot,

Our Senses are the horses,

Reins controlling the horses, is the “Mann”,

These Reins are in the hands of “Buddhi” i.e the driver,

We are the one in the chariot, i.e. the “Swami”

Body Chariot Analogy

If Buddhi is not appropriate i.e if the understanding is not proper then the Reins (Mann ) will not be in control. If Reins (Mann) are not taut i.e not in control, then the horses (senses) will be out of control, which will end up taking the chariot along with the Swami nowhere.

In fact it is the Buddhi (driver) keeps on teaching the Swami. Swami is the one who is the decision maker. If it is according to the knowledge given by Buddhi then it is fine otherwise we end up ending nowhere.
